Services

A short menu of things we do well.

We don't try to do everything. We cut, color, and style — with a particular love for curly and wavy hair, and the patience to braid an updo that holds for days. Every appointment starts with a real conversation about your hair, your routine, and what you actually want when you walk out the door.

01 — Cuts

Cut to how your hair actually falls.

Most cuts are designed wet, in a mirror that lies about your texture. We don't work that way. Every cut here starts with a look at how your hair sits and moves on a normal day, and ends with shaping that grows out gracefully — so you're not back in six weeks because the shape collapsed.

Curly cut

Signature

Curl-by-curl dry cutting that respects how each spiral actually behaves. Built for natural texture — no straightening required, no surprise shrinkage on day two.

Wavy cut

Texture

For the in-between hair that's never quite curly, never quite straight. Shaping that lets the wave pattern do its thing on air-dry days — and still blows out clean.

Classic cut

All textures

Precision shape for straight and lightly textured hair. Layers, length corrections, fringe — the everyday haircut, done with the same attention.

Bang / fringe trim

Maintenance

A quick reshape between cuts. Pop in, get them back to the right length and angle, head out.

02 — Color

Color that flatters — and grows out kindly.

Honest consultations on what's going to suit your skin tone, your routine, and how often you actually want to be back in a salon chair. We'd rather build you a color you love for six months than a color you tolerate for three weeks.

Balayage

Low-maintenance

Hand-painted lightening for soft, sun-touched dimension. Designed to grow out without a hard regrowth line so you can stretch six months between visits.

Highlights

Foil placement when you want brighter, more uniform light around the face. Full head, partial, or face-frame depending on what you're going for.

Single-process color

All-over color for going darker, going richer, or covering gray. Glossy, even, and tuned to your natural undertone.

Root touch-up

Maintenance for existing color — refreshing the new growth so your color reads as intentional, not overdue.

Gloss & toner

A shine treatment that refreshes tone between full color appointments. Knocks out brassiness, adds depth, leaves hair noticeably softer.

Color correction

When a previous color didn't land. Consultation first — these are planned carefully so the integrity of your hair stays intact.

03 — Styling

Special occasion or just a Tuesday.

Need a braided updo that holds through a wedding, a flight, or a few days of recovery? We do the things other salons turn down. Bring inspiration photos and a sense of how long you need it to last.

Blowout

Wash, prep, and a smooth blowout that lasts. Smooth and straight, soft waves, or volume at the root — pick your shape.

Updo

Pinned, twisted, or sculpted styles for weddings, events, and photos. Sturdy enough for a long day, soft enough that it still looks like you.

Braided styles

We say yes

Single braids, crown braids, multi-strand braided updos. Practical enough to wear for days when you need your hair safely out of the way.

Special occasion styling

Weddings, engagement photos, milestone birthdays. We'll talk through the look, time the appointment to the event, and send you out ready.

04 — Treatments & care

The unglamorous half of good hair.

What happens between appointments matters more than what happens during them. We carry a small, curated product selection — and we'll send you home with honest advice instead of a stack of bottles you don't need.

Conditioning treatment

A deep moisture or bond-repair treatment to add to any service. Useful before and after color, after a long winter, or whenever your hair feels tired.

Scalp care

Targeted treatment for dryness, buildup, or sensitivity at the root. Healthy scalps grow better hair.

Styling consultation

For when you've outgrown your routine. We'll talk through what you're using, how you're using it, and what to actually change. Often free with a service.

Take-home products

A small, hand-picked product wall. We'll only suggest what we'd actually use ourselves, sized to your real hair, not the bottle a brand wants you to buy.

If you have curls or waves

Bertha is an expert in curly hair.

That isn't us saying it — it's what regulars keep telling Google. Curl-by-curl dry cutting, naturally wavy hair that finally looks intentional, and the kind of confidence that comes from a stylist who actually knows your texture.

"Bertha the owner has been cutting my hair for a while. She's truly an expert in curly hair! She has a lovely salon and she has a great personality too!"

How an appointment goes

Slow enough to listen. Quick enough that you're not stuck here all day.

01

Consultation

We look at your hair dry, ask what you actually want it to do, and talk through what's realistic. Bring photos if you have them.

02

The service

One client at a time, no double-booking. Cuts, color, or styling — done at the pace your hair needs, not the pace the schedule wants.

03

Home routine

Before you leave, we'll walk you through how to recreate the look — and tell you honestly which one or two products are worth taking home.

Good to know

Common questions.

Do you take new clients?

Yes — new clients are welcome. When you book, please mention if your hair has curl, has been colored before, or both, so we can build in enough time for a real consultation.

How do I book?

Booking is handled online through Vagaro — pick a service, a stylist, and a time. If you'd rather talk to a person, call us at (510) 250-9179.

Do you do braids and protective styles?

Yes. Braiding is one of the things we say yes to when other salons say no — whether it's a braided updo for an event, a style that needs to last several days through recovery, or a protective look you can live in.

How do I prep for a color appointment?

Come with clean-ish hair (a day or two from last wash is fine — squeaky clean isn't required), bring 2-3 reference photos, and let us know if there's any previous color or chemical history. That helps us plan a result that's actually achievable in one visit.

What about pricing?

Prices vary by stylist, service length, and hair density. Current rates show up next to each service when you book through Vagaro — and if you're not sure what to choose, call us and we'll point you to the right starting service.

When are you open?

Tuesday through Friday 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM, Saturday 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Closed Sunday and Monday.

Ready when you are

Pick a service. Pick a stylist. We'll take it from there.

Booking is live on Vagaro — see what's open today, this week, or three months out. New clients welcome.
